STATEMENT

Concibo el arte como testimonio. Como registro de un sitio, un tiempo o una persona. Me adueño de mi reflejo en el espejo y de fotografías prosaicas para resignificarlas.

Incursiono en el género del autorretrato como herramienta de autoconocimiento y sostengo que lo más personal refleja temas tan universales como la autoafirmación, la vulnerabilidad, el egoísmo y la exaltación del yo. En mis obras entra en juego lo atemporal, la inmortalidad del ser más allá del cuerpo físico y la muerte.

Desnuda frente a un otro, trabajo con el registro de los instantes, valiéndome de fotografías, del espejo o del modelo natural. Indago en fotos antiguas de parientes lejanos y desconocidos. Lo personal se diluye con lo universal. Inmigrantes en busca de un futuro, una familia con rasgos tan precisos como anónimos. Me interesa acercarlos, conocerlos y apropiarme de ellos. Capturar la manera en que caminan, posan o miran a la cámara. Resulta ser una obra intimista dónde la serenidad y la melancolía traen el recuerdo de un pasado mejor.

I envision art as a testimony, a means of documenting a place, time or person. I take over my own reflection in a mirror and prosaic photographs to give them a new meaning.

I delve into the self-portrait genre as a path to self-knowledge and I assert that the most personal reflects universal topics such as self-assertiveness, vulnerability, selfishness, and exaltation of the self. My artwork involves timelessness and immortality, transcending the physical body and death.

Naked in front of the other, I work recording moments, using photographs, mirrors, or natural subjects. I explore old photographs of distant relatives and strangers. The personal merges with the universal. Immigrants in search of a better future, a family with features that are as distinctive as unremarkable. I am interested in bringing them together, knowing and seizing them; capturing the way they walk, pose, or look into the camera. As a result, my artwork creates a space where serenity and melancholy bring back the memory of a better past.
